On February 20, 1944, the Toyohashi Kokutai was transformed into the Kokutai 70/ (II) at Toyohashi air base. The picture depicts a pair of G4MI Model lis of the Hikotai 702 on a training sortie in the vicinity of sacred Mount Fuji. In May of the same year the Hikotai 702 moved from its home base to Chitose on Hokkaido. In autumn the unit proceeded to Katori and Kasumigaura. In October 1944 the Rikko-equipped Hikotai 702 was incorporated into the Kokutai 752, and then, in November 1944, it became a part of the Kokutai 763 and participated in combat in the Philippines. After that the Kokutai 701 (II) retained only Aichi D3As, Yokosuka D4Y Suiseis, Nakajima B5Ns and B6N Tenzans.
